There is a handsome dog called Piper who is the most adorable staff at Traverse City Airport in Michigan, and is also the most special “guardian” in the airport.
He is a bird-repellent dog.
In 2014, Piper began working with the owner at the airport.
At the time, after a year and a half of training, including understanding commands, customizing airport noise, adapting to goggles, etc., eventually Piper became the first airport runway working dog.
The daily duties of Piper's main responsibility are to drive the birds on the apron to ensure that the aircraft will safely take off and land, and to patrol with the staff regularly.
Whether it's a hot summer or a storm, you can always see the calm and pitpily working figure. Faced with a plane several times larger than it is, he never fears.
According to statistics, in the four years that Piper took office, he drove away more than 8300 birds on the runway of the airport, guaranteed the normal ups and downs of flights, and was named the hero dog of the airport!
However, Piper was diagnosed with prostate cancer early last year...
Although physical discomfort requires chemotherapy, this stubborn dog still insists on working at the airport.
Until December last year, his body began to deteriorate, the tumor gradually became swollen, and urination became difficult, making him obliged to leave the job...
Earlier this year, the owner took Piper back to the airport and said goodbye to all his colleagues. That night, Piper lay quietly in the owner’s arms and left...
"On the last day of his life, he still dutifully drove away a snowy owl that was lying on the runway. It became his last heroic posture."
Piper fulfilled his mission and went back to the paradise!
The owner also posted a Piper’s photo and said this is his favorite one.
“It was taken after Piper's first chemotherapy. He used shaved legs and bandages to show us the true courage. He would not let cancer, chemotherapy or anything else determine his life.”
Actually, in life, there are many working dogs like Piper, the silent heroes. We often cannot see that they silently doing what we can't do without regrets. So please do not live up of their good intentions for us, to understand and love them!
If you are also touched by Piper's profession and responsibility, please transpond it, spread positive energy to more people!
